About the Manifesto and yearly conference
Since 2023 Aralez is organising a yearly conference on reparations. During this conference community organizers and activists are invited to go into dialogue, formulate demands and think of actions aimed at repairing colonial damage towards the Global South and to help break the cycle of western and Dutch neo-colonial and imperialist domination. During the first edition, the intention was expressed to formulate a Decolonial manifesto with concrete demands for reparations towards the Dutch state and other colonial institutions. Aralez took the initiative to shape this manifesto and has presented its draft for final feedback during the second edition of the 2024 conference after which it is now finalised as a living document for yearly conversation. The Third Edition of 2025 took place on April 19th where you can find info here
The goal is to slowly build a decolonial network and grassroots movement in the Netherlands surrounding the subject of reperations for the global south, to exchange knowledge between initiatives and slowly start introducing this conversation into the public debate. The yearly conference intentionally take place in April, to be aligned in the spirit of the Bandung conference which took place from April 18-24 in 1955 in Bandung, Indonesia. It was the first conference that united former colonized countries from Africa and Asia to develop a strategy and vision for a new decolonial world civilization against the backdrop of imperialism and neo-colonial domination.
