What are inspiring reparation initiatives that have already been set up?
Here we will have a conversation with a panel consisting of different initiatives in the Netherlands who contributed to different form of reperations in practise. Next to this we will form circles with the participants to exchange the way colonialism is still impacting different communities today.

Sunday April 23rd, 2023:

What can we learn from reparation initiatives from the Global South?
Here we will invite different international speakers via zoom to share their experiences with implementing reperations in their context. This panel will consist of people who come from and are organising in the global south perspective. The goal is to learn from their experiences and see how we can be in solidarity.

What actions and demands can we develop?
This part of the program is meant to build on the previous day, where we now imagine how we can initiate processes and actions that can contribute to forms of repair from ongoing colonialism. This will be done by forming circles with the participants and becoming as concrete as possible .

BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON SPEAKERS:

Joining us as speakers on Saturday 22nd of April:

Kjelld Kroon comes from Rincon/Bonaire and studies in Leiden. He is an activist for Bonaire’s political rights and did an internship at Human Rights Bonaire in 2021. As a philosophy student; Global and comparative perspectives (Leiden) he specializes in decolonial and political philosophy.

Fitria Jelyta (1991) is a journalist, writer and moderator. She writes about topics that are close to her heart, such as Islam, Muslims, and the history of the Netherlands in Indonesia. She is currently working on her first book about Indonesian perspectives on the colonial past.

Pablo Alanes is an activist and artist from Bolivia. He participated in the social movements of the early 2000’s which led to the election of Evo Morales who won his presidency in 2006. This helped to set in motion social and political changes for the country. He is also a cultural and spiritual practitioner of the Andes and filmmaker.

Joining as opening speakers and organizers of the conference on April 22nd:

Sandew Hira: He published twenty books and numerous reports and articles on the recent history of Suriname, the position of migrants in the Netherlands and the Hindu diaspora. He is the author of Decolonizing the Mind: A guide to decolonial theory and practice and cofounder of Decolonial International Network.

Chris Kaspar de Ploeg (1994) is an investigative journalist, grassroots organizer, speaker, moderator and author of Ukraine in the Crossfire, project coordinator for Arts of Resistance and cofounder of Aralez

Pravini Baboeram is an artist and activist, creating art to contribute to social change. She has been engaged in community work, translating decolonial theory to grassroots initiatives that challenge institutional racism and colonial legacies and is a co-founder of Aralez.

Chautuileo Tranamil has worked on a global scale with grassroots communities, especially Indigenous peoples. As a Mapuche-Pewenche herself, she is committed to the well-being of Indigenous communities around the world. She is cofounder of Aralez and coordinator at Indigenous Liberation.

Max Arto de Ploeg is a community builder, grassroot organizer, moderator, musician, teacher, and public speaker. He is cofounder of Aralez and coordinator at Together Against Racism, Indigenous Liberation and Decolonial Learning Sessions.

Dr. Samir Abed-Rabbo : Samir Abed-Rabbo is a Palestinian refugee born in Qalandia Refugee Camp in Jerusalem, Palestine. He holds a PhD in International Law and is the author and editor of several articles and books and is the lead author of both The Munich Declaration for One Democratic State in Historic Palestine (2012) and The Dallas Declaration of the Movement for One Democratic State in Historic Palestine (2010).

Esther-Stanford Xosei is a Reparations Specialist, Legal Advisor, International Advocate, Political Advisor, Scholar-Activist, Media Spokesperson, Environmentalist, Historian, Educator, Trainer, Keynote Speaker and Mentor. On a personal, political and professional level, repairing the historical and ongoing damage to Afrikan people and Mother Earth motivates Esther-Stanford Xosei to do her work.

Guillermo Barreto is of the Simon Bolivar Institute for Peace and Solidarity. The goal of the Institute is to coordinate global solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution and the Venezuelan people, and the solidarity of the South American nation toward struggles for social and economic justice of peoples throughout the world.

With perfomances by :

Yero Gaynaako x gHSTS & gUITARS: Yero is a rapper and human rights defender from Mauritania, who was forced to flee to the Netherlands as a political refugee. An artist with razor sharp lyrics on the plight of his people in Mauritania, with a raw delivery on old-school boom-bap beats. Yet Yero is also an activist, public speaker, researcher and festival director of Welooti, one of the largest festivals of Mauritania. Yero sings in Fulani, a language that is spoken by more than 50 million people in over 18 countries on the African continent. He is an ambassador of Fulani culture. He will be supported on guitar by James Joseph Gallagher aka “gHSTS & gUITARS” – who is a wandering street sound artist hailing from New York.

Anima Jhagroe-Ruissen is a Social Artivist ( = Art + Activism). Through henna and dance she creates spaces of resistance to pursue social justice for Woman of Colour. At the same time she also explores imaginaries of our bodies, material environments, and social realities that go beyond capitalism and colonialism. The ghungeroos she wears in the performance, symbolize the voices of Woman of Colour. They tell our marginalized stories through rhythm.

Wat kunnen we leren van reparatie-initiatieven uit het Globale Zuiden?
Hier zullen we via zoom verschillende internationale sprekers uitnodigen om hun ervaringen te delen met het implementeren van herstel in hun context. Dit panel zal bestaan ​​uit mensen die afkomstig zijn uit- en zich organiseren in het mondiale zuiden . Het doel is om te leren van hun ervaringen en te kijken hoe we solidair kunnen zijn.

Dit zal gebeuren door met de deelnemers kringen te vormen en zo concreet mogelijk te worden.

Sprekers op Zaterdag 22 april:

Kjelld Kroon komt uit Rincon/Bonaire en studeert in Leiden. Hij is een activist voor de politieke rechten van Bonaire en liep in 2021 stage bij Human Rights Bonaire. Hij is gespecialiseerd in dekoloniale en politieke filosofie als filosofiestudent; Globale en vergelijkende perspectieven (Leiden) 

Fitria Jelyta (1991) is journalist, schrijver en moderator. Ze schrijft onder andere over onderwerpen die haar aan het hart gaan, zoals de islam en moslims, en de geschiedenis van Nederland in Indonesië. Op dit moment werkt ze aan haar eerste boek over Indonesische perspectieven op het koloniale verleden.

Pablo Alanes is een activist en kunstenaar uit Bolivia. Hij nam deel aan de sociale bewegingen van de vroege jaren 2000 die leidden tot de verkiezing van Evo Morales, die in 2006 zijn presidentschap won. Dit hielp om sociale en politieke veranderingen voor het land in gang te zetten. Hij is ook een culturele en spirituele beoefenaar van de Andes en filmmaker.

Max Arto de Ploeg is een community builder, grassroot-organisator, moderator, muzikant, leraar en spreker. Hij is medeoprichter van Aralez en coördinator van Samen tegen Racisme, Indigenous Liberation en Decolonial Learning Sessions.

Guillermo Barreto is van het Simon Bolivar Instituut voor Vrede en Solidariteit. Het doel van het Instituut is het coördineren van wereldwijde solidariteit met de Bolivariaanse Revolutie en het Venezolaanse volk, en de solidariteit van de Zuid-Amerikaanse natie in de strijd voor sociale en economische rechtvaardigheid van volkeren over de hele wereld.

Met optredens van:

Anima Jhagroe-Ruissen is een sociaal kunstenaar (=kunst + activisme). Door middel van henna en dans creëert ze ruimtes van verzet om sociale rechtvaardigheid voor Woman of Colour na te streven. Tegelijkertijd onderzoekt ze ook verbeeldingen van ons lichaam, materiële omgevingen en sociale realiteiten die verder gaan dan kapitalisme en kolonialisme. De ghungeroos die ze in de voorstelling draagt, symboliseren de stemmen van Woman of Colour. Ze vertellen onze gemarginaliseerde verhalen door middel van ritme.
